I was born in New Castle in 1952, and have lived within a few miles of that location my entire life. I was raised on a small farm near Millville, the second of eight children of Myron and Phyllis Bell. I attended Millville Grade School, and Graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1970. After a short stint at Indiana University, I returned home and started working for a carpenter in Mooreland. I started my own contracting business in 1974, which I still operate today.
I married my wife Susan in 1976, and we are the proud parents of three grown children and three grandchildren (soon to be four).
A few years ago I realized how expensive and intrusive our government had become. Our property taxes had increased 450% since we purchased our home, and any attempt by our legislators to lessen those taxes only resulted in higher taxes elsewhere. As a small business owner I also saw first hand the crippling effect of over regulation.
I joined the Libertarian Party because I believe that personal freedom and personal responsibility are what made this nation great. I also believe that abandoning personal freedom and personal responsibility, and expecting the government to provide for our every wish, want and need, will be the downfall of this great nation.
I’m not a polished politician by any means. I’m a simple man that longs for a simple government. If you find your self wishing for the same thing, I hope you will lend me your support.
