Education secretary touts ‘No Child’ renewal

“Education in the United States has ‘reached a really important crossroads,’ U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings told a gathering of educators, politicians and others Tuesday. Six years into the No Child Left Behind Act, generally considered President Bush’s signature domestic policy, Spellings said the nation’s schools now can leverage data to best educate students. But as the law awaits reauthorization, she warned against a return to what she called ‘the aspirational approach … put the money out there and hope for the best.’” (07/01/08)
